STATE OF THE ART COMMUNICATIONS

Kenwood offers the only P25 systems purposely designed for IP networks. This state-of-the-art architecture approach eliminates traditional system cores (and by association the need for EXPENSIVE second cores for redundancy). This is accomplished by virtualizing the core. In other words, we have replaced the hardware dependent system “brains” (also known as “the core”) with virtualized software.

By contrast, competing P25 systems are radio systems that were back-engineered to utilize IP networks.   These systems still utilize a hardware dependent core approach developed in the 1970s.  Systems deploying physical cores are expensive to purchase, complex and expensive to maintain, subject to hardware obsolescence, and susceptible to outages due to disasters like flooding, connection interruptions, and even generator power failures.  To address these design deficiencies, competing manufacturers often market regionalization concepts which allow sharing of cores because customers cannot afford to purchase a second core for redundancy.

Kenwood Atlas P25 systems can deploy their virtualized control software anywhere and everywhere.  Virtualizing and distributing the brains of the system means that a disaster at one or many site locations does not cripple or degrade the remaining Atlas P25 system.

The KAIROS repeaters are Kenwood’s cost effective P25 Conventional solution scaling from simple standalone sites to large nationwide systems.   Like the Kenwood Atlas systems, Kairos is a fully IP-based distributed network architecture supporting multi site, multi protocol network solutions in multicast or simulcast mode of operation.  Kairos is offered in VHF or UHF frequency bands.
